The last time …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead came to town (May 2011), it was on a bill with Surfer Blood. Yep, a bit of a head scratcher but the pairing led to a packed Basement. This time around, the Texas band brings along their Lone Star homies, Ume, and the pairing makes much more sense.
My buddy David (of Houston Calling fame) turned me onto Ume, the Austin power trio a few years ago and I had a chance to check them out for myself almost a year ago to the day at the inaugural Bunbury Music Festival in Cincinnati. To say that they blew me away would be an understatement. Imagine the Joy Formidable if they were influenced by proggy-metal bands (like Minus the Bear, Tool, Failure) with a wild banshee – in the form of Lauren Larson – on vocals and guitar.
Ume was one of the first bands my kid interviewed for KidsInterviewBands.com – we caught up with them shortly after their blistering Bunbury set.
…And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead with guests Ume, The Red Paintings and Ease the Medic perform at Ace of Cups on Saturday, July 13. Doors at 8, Ease the Medic starts at 8:30.
Advance tickets are on sale now online for $17. If you prefer physical tickets, you can pick them up (cash only, please) at Records Per Minute (2579 N.High St.) and Ace of Cups. Day of show, tickets will cost you $18.
