Musicians, music appreciators, and night life junkies, here is your weekly guide to the Columbus music scene. Whether you’ve got a rock n’ roll heart or a craving for heavy EDM drops, there is something for you. Check out what Columbus has to offer you this weekend.
ROCK
Are you ready to rock the night alongside one of these bands? Your first option on Friday is a full-fledged indie concert. Alex and the XO’s is playing with Sweet Teeth, Something Keen, and Noble Vices at The Tree Bar. This show ranges from some riff-based, heavier (but still indie) rock to poppier melodies. If you are in the market for some summertime, easy-to-digest rock music, get a spot at the Rumba Café to see EZTV and Shilpa Ray. Turnin’ up the volume this Friday are Hemi Devils and Downspeed at O’Sheckys Live Bar & Restaurant. With songs like “Baptized in Gasoline,” “Outlaw,” and “Electric Wine,” these guys hit hard with their metal. Lastly on Friday, New Park Drive is getting rowdy and nostalgic with all your favorite 90’s and early 2000’s rock. You’ll hear your favorites like Blink-182, Weezer, and The Black Keys. Don’t miss them at Park Street Tavern.
Saturday night’s alright for fightin’ this weekend in Columbus. Bringing it back to the British invasion is The Inside Four at Ruby Tuesday. They have elements from all the greats in their music. Beatles, Kinks, Doors, and other fans of the early days should make it to this show. Now flash forward half a century to modern metal. The Black Antler is playing with Doors and Brat Curse at the Ace of Cups. The show will progress through various intensities of rock to be capped off by The Black Antler waging an assault on your ears. Fans of the heavy stuff, go check this show out. Hitting the heavy note in a different key is Kill Jacket. This band is most reminiscent of Iron Maiden in their sound and style, so any fans should be at O’Sheckys Live Bar & Restaurant. Next up, Pluto Revolts and Fool’s Fire dial back the meter a little. Pluto Revolts has interesting and captivating sound. It’s the kind of alternative punk rock that you want to sing along to. Their music is a mix of Sum 41 and Smashing Pumpkins. See them at Brothers Drake Meadery & Bar. Last on the bill for Saturday is Calendar For Preston. These guys are a heavy alt rock band. They are likely to play some of their songs acoustically as well. Come see them at the Keystone Pub.
Keep on rockin’ straight through the holy day with these bands. Little Green Cars is playing The Basement. They are appropriately presented by CD 102.5. Their sound fits the exact indie rock mold that CD 102.5 is built from. For a high-spirited, light, indie rock show come see them. The next concert option is Grandchildren at the Rumba Café. They are more of a folk pop band, but their roots stem from rock n’ roll music. And, lastly, the most blasphemous concert of the day is Curse the Wicked at O’Sheckys Live Bar & Restaurant. This band lays down steady and unrelenting metal riffs with a rhythm section that will make the whole bar pulse.
COUNTRY

A night inside Nyoh’s.

Come listen to Jaty Edwards play some country music with Texan roots
Unfortunately all the country shows but one are on Sunday. Nonetheless, I encourage all of you to check out Nyoh’s Buckeye Bar and Grill on Saturday or Friday to gear up for your Sunday shows. You can line dance and sing your night away with other free-spirited, country-loving men and women.
Your Friday show is Jaty Edwards at the Keystone Pub playing some straight up, down home, Texas style country
music. You’ll be sorry to have missed this one as a Country music fan.
Playing earlier in the day, Noah Gundersen is with Ivan & Aloysha at Skully’s. This show will be a slow, feel-good show. Bob your head, sway, and lose yourself in the soft warmth of their music. Then hustle to see Greenjeans at the Rumba Café. They are opening for Grandchildren with a set full of country rock instrumentals. While some of their songs don’t fit the country mold, you will still appreciate their sound and style.
