Weyes Blood and Nick Hakim made a stop in Columbus on Wednesday night as part of the In Holy Flux Tour:Unleashed tour. Weyes Blood (Natalie Mering) has been around a lot longer than I thought. She has been recording since 2003 and her first Columbus Show was at Spacebar in 2016. She has definitely matured as an artist this was noticeable by her strong stage presence. She kept her stage banter to a minimum and let her music do the talking.
The show was not in support of any particular album and the setlist contained songs from her first three albums on Sub-Pop. I was particularly Impressed with the multimedia aspects of the show where she performed in front of a film “God Turn Me Into a Flower,” a film created by filmmaker Adam Curtis.
Nick Hakim opened the show with his brand of one man band folk music. His set was tight, soulful and had some elements of Hip-Hop. Nick was touring in support of his latest album COMETA. Another great night at the storied Newport Music Hall.
