Columbus musicians make a habit of celebrating the music they love, from the Beatles to Guided by Voices. Friday night, February 20th, at Ace of Cups a group will come together to honor the Magnetic Fields, and the songs of Stephen Merritt with a performance entitled, “Infinite Exes: a tribute to the Magnetic Fields.”
The evening’s ensemble includes many of Columbus’ busiest musicians from bands including: Connections, Tin Armor, Saintseneca, Trains Across the Sea, Maza Blaska, Psychic Wheels, Dead is Dead, Flotation Walls and the Dewdroppers).
The Magnetic Fields famously released the three disc box set of 69 Love Songs. (If you want to learn more about 69Love Songs it has its own wiki).
Friday’s performance will include selections from that classic as well as other favorite Merritt tracks. The set list may include:
I Think I Need A New Heart, Fear of Trains, My Only Friend, Lonely Highway, Papa Was A Rodeo and Take Ecstacy With Me.
Folks planning to attend have been kindly asked to bring flowers (dead or alive) and candles to help set the mood. (The Facebook invite has all the details.)
A video of Magnetic Fields performing All the Umbrellas in London in Philly shows the Merritt they strive to capture.
Don’t forget Merritt, himself will perform May 16th at the Wexner Center.
