It’s been a long time in the making – and was rumored to be done last summer – but this Friday evening marks the release of The Receiver’s third album, All Burn. The Cooper brothers (Casey – vocals, keys, bass; Jesse – drums) have been releasing music since 2006 though they favor getting it right rather than getting it out quickly.
I’ve always thought The Receiver have an early Radiohead sound and after giving All Burn a quick spin earlier today, I’ll continue to think that! I think it’s going to take a few listens to really appreciate the depth of this album, but even on the surface it’s a lush and dreamy sounding affair that sets a calm and peaceful mood. The novelty of music duos has worn off, but there’s a certain type of magic between two brothers that other bands just can’t capture.
New merch – including physical copes of All Burn – will be available at Ace of Cups on Friday evening. Playing to Vapors and Fingers will set the tone early on before The Receiver takes the stage. Should be a packed house to help the Cooper brothers celebrate their first new album in 6 years.
