Musicians, music appreciators, and night life junkies, here is your weekly guide to the Columbus music scene. Whether you’ve got a rock n’ roll heart or a craving for heavy EDM drops, there is something for you. Check out what Columbus has to offer you this weekend.
FRIDAY SHOWS (13TH)
Suspect Earth
Suspect Earth has an album called Hard To Drag. The album opens with a pounding riff and a guttural yell. This is the only heavy metal show on my radar for this weekend so suit up and get out there if you’re a rocker. This is also not to mention that the show is in The Basement which is a killer venue for a rock show.

Playing to Vapors, The Wet Darlings, Nick D, The Believers
Playing to Vapors is headlining the night with a similar musical range to that of Manchester Orchestra. They go from slow psychedelic rock to heavier alternative sounds. Opening for them is The Wet Darlings. The Wet Darlings share the same vibe and aesthetic in their as the Pixies.

Ryn Weaver
Weaver is a performer who plays in the same field as Lana Del Rey and Lorde. She leans heavily on her vocal presence to bring her electronic beats and melodies to life. She is a very talented singer and I would highly recommend her to any fans of Lana or Lorde.

Cas Haley, Collin Hauser, Cody Conter
This lineup features some mellow reggae music and some acoustic love songs. Cas Haley is bringing the reggae to the show. He plays with a smooth flow to his songs. His show will be opened for by Hauser and Conter who will play their own brands of love songs.

SATURDAY SHOWS (14TH)
Ben Folds, yMusic, Dotan
Folds is coming to the LC Pavilion with yMusic and Dotan. This night will be full of witticisms laid out to the tune of Folds’ piano, well-orchestrated woodwinds from yMusic, and the gentle messages delivered from Dotan’s careful, soulful performance with his acoustic guitar. This is a fairly unusual line up of bands and musicians just because of the unique instrumentation. It does not classify as rock, pop, rap, and certainly not electronic. It’s just high quality music of various styles.

Birds and Arrows, Matt Monta and the Haymakers, Rebekkah Jean
This is a southern, country kind of show, but with a wide range of moods. The night starts off with Jean singing her heartfelt songs of love. Then comes Matt Monta and the Haymakers with their more upbeat and exciting country music. Monta can rip into the harmonica in a way that makes you want to get out and hit High Street on the weekend. Then Brids and Arrows will close the night with their softer brand of country music. It will be a night full of pure and genuine music.

Ravenhill, The Ghost Town Railroad
Another show with some southern touches to it. I’d describe this show as having roots in the southern blues, but modernized with a touch of Jet’s contagious energy. If you’re looking for a show with some energy behind it then check this one out.

Doors: 9:00 PM @ Brothers Drake Meadery & Bar – 26 E 5th Ave, Columbus, OH 43201

Chris Bosca January Project, Matthew Morgan and the Family Band
This concert is being put on by bands made up of friends and family for the Youth Across Borders foundation. These bands play some blues style rock and they are good at it. They are also made up of guys that have been around the Columbus music scene for some time now so they are practiced in their live performances. Definitely go check this show out Saturday night.
