If there’s anything we’ve learned in the last 8 or so months, once vaccines became available and venues started booking shows again, it’s that we’ve all been starved for live music and have been showing up to see opening artists. So, if you’re attending Wednesday night’s Girl in Red show at Kemba Live, chances are you’re already familiar with – and a fan – of Holly Humberstone. On the off chance that this name is new to you, rest assured it’s absolutely worth showing up early for.

The 22-year-old from Grantham, England made her first big splash on the BBC Introducing Stage at the 2019 Glastonbury Festival. With the BBC stamp of approval, Humberstone released a number of singles – including a cover of Radiohead‘s “Fake Plastic Trees” – over the course of 2020 before compiling those songs and adding three more for a proper EP.

In early 2021, Humberstone signed with Interscope Records and by the end of the year, had released her second EP, The Walls Are Way Too Thin. If you’ve been paying attention to the up-and-coming singer/songwriters, it should be no surprise that Humberstone’s sublime narratives about heart-breaking romances, dealing with the state of the world the last few years, and trying to find an anchor to stay steady have captured the attention of the same kids who listen, and adore, Phoebe Bridgers, Olivia Rodrigo, Lana Del Ray, Soccer Mommy and many others (the list goes on and on and on).

Humberstone’s latest single, “London is Lonely,” is yet another personal and emotional single from the young singer and one that’s already making waves on streaming services.

There’s little doubt that Humberstone will eventually go from opening act to headliner of venues the size of Kemba Live so it’s worth catching her now for the always important bragging rights to say, “I saw Holly Humberstone as an opening act!”

We’d give you info on how to buy tickets but, if you’re not already in possession of one, you’re out of luck as the show is sold out.
