Not even a year ago, Atlas Genius opened the CD102.5 Summerfest show (which also featured, early in the bill, The Lumineers) at the LC on the side stage. Yeah, they played in front of a few hundred people who had shown up to check out hours worth of rock, but at that point they were just riding high off the song “Trojans”, featured on the Through the Glass EP, and still had plenty to prove.
Earlier this year Atlas Genius proved they aren’t a one-hit wonder by releasing When It Was Now, chock full o’ CD102.5 hits (like “If So”), and touring with the likes of Silversun Pickups, Wolf Gang and Animal Kingdom. When a June 7 tour date at The Basement was announced, it didn’t take a genius to realize that this show was going to be moved to a larger venue, and that it did. Atlas Genius will now be headlining The Newport Music Hall on Friday night with support from The Postelles and Haerts. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 day of show.
Here’s an interview I did with Atlas Genius before their Summerfest appearance and an interview I did with The Postelles before their appearance at Outland on Liberty in 2011.
If that’s not enough interview goodness, check out the interview Keith and Michael from Atlas Genius did with my daughter for KidsInterviewBands.com.
And, finally, dig this tune from opening act Haerts. Maybe next year THEY’LL be headlining The Newport!
