A $5 cover will get you the chance to see two up-and-coming artists at The Basement on Saturday night – Said the Whale and Royal Teeth. This is a CD102.5-sponsored show and you’ve probably heard both bands in rotation on the station in the last 6 months. If somehow you’ve missed ’em, give these standout tracks a listen.

Royal Teeth was last in Columbus in April and Kids Interview Bands had the chance to ask the band a few questions prior to their show at the A&R Bar.

Giddy up cowboys and cowgals, The Redvines have just dropped some honky-tonk goodness for ya on their Reverbnation page. The Redvines are singer/guitarist Aaron Pauley (Unit-1), bassist Rob Dougherty (Unit-1), guitarist Jamie Molisee (The Boondogglers) and drummer Brady Oxender (Slim White and the Averys, Matt Monta and the Smoking Guns).

Catch The Redvines at Woodlands Backyard on Oct.4 and KOBO on Oct.5.

Great news … 16-Bit Bar+Arcade, located in the happening block on South Fourth St. that is also home to Dirty Frank’s, Little Palace and El Camino Inn, has finally received all the approvals needed to open the doors and let people start working on Defender, Donkey Kong, and Ms. PacMan high scores.

The official grand opening is Friday, August 30.

Undoubtedly, opening weekend crowds are going to be INSANE but I’m sure those who get to spend 10 minutes at the Dig Dug machine reliving the glory days of the ’80s will hardly complain, especially as they play with an ice cold microbrew draft in their non-playing hand.

To keep up on all the latest 16-Bit Bar+Arcade news, ‘like’ their Facebook page.

My old pal Tankboy just posted this on Facebook after seeing Drowners in Chicago:

Drowners were amazing tonight. If they come through your town SEE THEM. If you live in Chicago and missed them, cry when they come through next year to packed rooms on an album everyone’s buzzing about.

I feel totally out of the loop, I’ve seen the name before but haven’t listened to this NYC band until just this very minute. I knew they were coming to Columbus but didn’t realize the show is TONIGHT at Rumba.

“You’ve Got it All Wrong” is a pretty catchy little indie pop number, I think I’ll have to do some ‘xplorin’ on Wednesday to see what else I can find by these guys.

Doors at 9 for this show, $7 at the door. If Tankboy’s to believed, that’s a STEAL and next time they come to town you’ll be catching them at a larger … much larger … venue. Friendly Faux and Fields and Planes open.
