Here’s the second installment of A Year of Pandemic: Catching up with Central Ohio’s Concert Photographers featuring photographer and artist Karl Francis! Karl and I recently caught up down at Ohio University for the photoshoot.
Again, the idea for this series is to reconnect with the local photographers we see at the stadiums for international tours as well as the local concerts at small clubs and basically to give everyone some love with some fun Q&A questions.

How have you been spending the pandemic? Have you been shooting or involving yourself in some other creative activity?
I’ve spent the pandemic shooting nature mostly with my phone. I’ve hiked, cooked, read, and spoken with friends and family more in the last year than any other year.
What is keeping you inspired?
Not much. Most of my work is long term and based around events. None of these events took place last year and a number of them have already been canceled for this year. Although I’m not feeling particularly inspired I still shoot because I want to keep a basic level of skill intact.
Things or projects you’d like to promote?
I have a show at the Athen’s Ohio public library that will be up during the month of May. The show is composed of photos taken on the many walks I took just to get out during the pandemic.
Editor note: This interview was done in May 2021
What was the last show you shot before the pandemic?
I shot my friend’s band performing during Franklinton Fridays in October of 2020.
What are you most looking forward to in a post-pandemic world? (Whenever that may be)
Being able to travel. I’ve not seen family in more than a year.
