It’s like Jess Abbott snuck into my basement, grabbed all of the CDs by my favorite female-fronted bands from the last 20+ years, and said, “If I take a bit of this and a bit of that, I’ll make an album that Chip will declare one of his favorites of 2016.” Well played Jess, well played.

Jess, who is also a member of Now, Now, performs as a “solo” artist under the name Tancred. But don’t expect a girl-with-an-acoustic-guitar-who-wants-to-be-Jewel, this is straight up indie pop rawk. A few tracks have found their way to Soundcloud and are presented below. The songs¬†are a great representation of what you’ll hear on Tancred’s third full length, Out of the Garden, which will be released on April 1.

Tancred will play second on a four-band bill headlined by Foxing Wednesday night at The Basement. Doors are at 6:30 and tickets are $15 at the door.

In case you were wondering, I hear the following bands when listening to Tancred: Letters to Cleo, All Dogs, Juliana Hatfield, Speedy Ortiz, Veruca Salt and That Dog.
