Booty&theKidd are a local hip-hop fusion group  formed by members Nick Reinmann and Tyler Butts. Before their show at Kafe Kerouac promoting their new EP Victoria’s Living Room, they sat down with Columbus Calling to answer a few questions.

If you could tour with any band/musician, who would it be?

Nick: Anderson .Paak, I feel like we both have the jazz and the crossover stuff and he’s hot right now. I feel that’d be good for us.

Tyler: Feel like that would be a good yin and yang type of thing.

N: But a band from the past…

T: Hall & Oates!

What’s your favorite Hall & Oates song?

T: “Lady Rain”

N: “She’s Gone” That song messed me up the first time I heard it and it got me listening to Abandoned Luncheonette, which is by far my favorite album. I love the album version vs. the single version [of “She’s Gone”], how they draw out the intro and have a second verse in the beginning. I think that’s the right way to do a pop song, just make it so grandiose on the album, but make it clean and concise for the radio.

Who is the most underrated musician/songwriter?

T: Booty and the Kidd.

Both: *Laughing*

N: I think Earl Sweatshirt. He never gets enough credit and he’s groundbreaking. His numbers are always pretty mediocre, but his albums are crazy.

T: Isaiah Rashad is kind of overlooked, but he’s got it too.

N: Yeah, his last album, oh my god. I listened to that more than anything probably.

Do you have any pets?

N: We two cats. They black cats that are brother and sister. Their names are Roger and Rose. They’re great cats!

If Roger and Rose were in a band, what would it sound like?

T: Have you ever seen that one Rick and Morty episode where he’s in a computer generated world and he turns on the radio and is like, “Oh human music!”

N: Roger plays the piano. We have a piano in the house and he likes to climb up on it and hit keys randomly. He doesn’t understand music theory though, so it sounds really bad.

T: He’s getting there.

N: You know the guy from Bob’s Burgers, that does the voice of Bob from Bob’s Burgers, did you know he made a jazz album and he straight up doesn’t know how to play piano. Got all these super killer jazz musicians on it and all the other music on it is crazy, but the piano is super out of key and makes no sense, that’s probably what it might sound like as well.

If you could play any venue in the world, what would it be?

T: Red Rocks

N: Either that or the Apollo

What’s the first album you ever bought with your own money?

T: All American Rejects

N: Maroon 5’s Songs about Jane and I stick to it, that’s the best $13 I ever spent.

What song would you use to describe your teenage years?

T: “Kryptonite” by 3 Doors Down

N: (Laughing) Your teenage years is “Kryptonite” by 3 Doors Down?

T: I guess I was thinking infinite years. My teenage years…

N: “Roses” by Outkast

T: Yeah, the first time I heard “Ms. Jackson” I sh*t my pants

N: Actually “Ms. Jackson” is what I meant to say, “Roses” was there, but “Ms. Jackson” was that sh*t.
